Scarborough and District Mencap are currently recruiting Support Workers to our team.

Please be aware this role will involve P/C and Moving and handling.

We are seeking individuals to work shifts, school holiday weekdays from 9.15 am to 4 pm, Saturdays 6 hours on a Rota basis.

Scarborough and District Mencap are currently recruiting Support Workers to our team. We are seeking individuals to work shifts, weekdays 9.15am to 4pm, Saturdays 6 hours, and some evenings 4 to 7.30pm on a rota basis

Who are we?

We are an independent charity, registered separately with the Charity Commission, but affiliated to the Royal Mencap Society. We provide a range of day and out-of-hours services for children and adults with a learning disability, including those with additional physical disabilities, complex medical needs and challenging behaviours.

What do we provide?

Respite care for children via play activities held after school, at weekends and in the school holidays
Flexible care and support in peopleโ€™s own homes or the community, to help them to live more independently
Day Services โ€“ Monday-Friday day service activities and care for adults
A teatime service providing a two-course meal and supervised activities as a bridge between day services and evening activities so that service users can remain more independent, and parents/carers have longer respite (Tues/Thurs/Fri)
Evening activities such as Gateway Club, a drama group and discos, which provide social opportunities for adult service users to meet up with friends (Tues/Thurs/Fri)
Support Worker Role

We are looking for Support Workers who will, enable people with learning disabilities to lead fulfilling lives based around their individual needs, community participation, respect and community presence.

A person who can work safely and in compliance with our internal and external requirements so that the people we support can trust and feel safe and confident in the support we provide them. To be able to work as part of a team with a positive and enthusiastic attitude and a commitment to working at Scarborough and district Mencap.

We provide person-centred care and support, including opportunities to take part in a wide variety of centre-based and community activities designed to:

Develop and retain independence through undertaking a choice of activities that involve practical life skills
Promote and maintain service usersโ€™ health and wellbeing and encourage them to have a healthy lifestyle
Offer supported work experience relevant to service usersโ€™ capabilities
Enable service users to access a range of social and leisure activities and try out new hobbies alongside their peers
Desirable:

ยท Current relevant training and experience: e.g. First Aid, moving and handling, food hygiene, safeguarding. Necessary training can be provided as needed.

ยท Ability to drive for work.

ยท Experience of working with adults and children with learning disabilities.

Essential:

ยท Able to support with Moving and Handling tasks in the building and community.

ยท Working in the community and also at our base

Enhanced DBS clearance/references

Any offer of a post is subject to you providing two satisfactory professional references and your undergoing an enhanced DBS clearance.
