Scalby School Scarborough

Scalby School is a successful and popular 11-16 community school based in picturesque seaside town of Scarborough on the North Yorkshire Coast. We currently have approximately 1000 students on roll. In recent years we have become the school of choice in our local community. Our P8 score in 2024 placed us in the top 14% of schools nationally.

Our students are diverse, exciting and talented – and the same is true of our staff.  We put huge emphasis on professional development, most of it in-house, and are proud of the highly effective teaching, which characterises our school. We are also noted for our ‘can do’ attitude. We are keen, always, to encourage new and/or young staff to make their mark as soon as they are ready.

A consistently ‘Good’ school in every area as judged by Ofsted in 2012, 2019 and most recently in 2024. Our Opportunity

We are looking to appoint a Teacher of French to join our successful French Department. Applicants will join an innovative, forward-thinking, and committed team, The position would suit dynamic teachers who are able to inspire pupils of all abilities to develop their full potential in French.

Experience of teaching French is essential as is a thorough up-to-date knowledge and experience of the curriculum.

Scalby has a track record of providing staff with CPD and developing successful school leaders. For a colleague who has aspirations of getting into school leadership we would welcome an application and the opportunity to discuss their ambitions.

We also welcome applications from Early Careers Teachers with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/ECT), relevant support will be provided for this colleague.

You will:

·         Want to transform children’s lives and develop a love of French.

·         Have experience in teaching GCSE French.

·         Have a relevant teaching qualification.

·         Be able to understand and apply a range of teaching strategies.

·         Be able to positively target and support individual learning needs.

·         Undertake professional duties as delegated by the Headteacher

·         Implement the aims and objectives of the school/trust understanding and working within school/ trust policies to achieve these aims and objectives.

Our Trust

Coast and Vale Learning Trust is a growing family of schools located on the beautiful Yorkshire Coast. The Trust was founded by Scalby Secondary School but has grown over the last few years to include Newby and Scalby Primary School, Friarage Primary School, Scarborough University Technical College (SUTC), Lady Lumley’s Secondary School in Pickering, and Filey secondary school. Our ambition is to continue to welcome new schools into our Trust where we can add capacity, resources, improvement and make sure all our young people have access to the very best education. The Trust has been working closely with Delta Academies Trust to provide capacity and leadership support to improve outcomes for young people in the region.

The aim of the trust is to serve all the education community along the North Yorkshire Coast and down the Vale of Pickering.
